A Traditional Ayurvedic Treatment for Pain Relief and Joint Care

Kizhi is a widely practiced Ayurvedic therapy that involves the application of warm herbal poultices (called kizhi) to the body. These poultices are filled with medicinal herbs, powders, rice, or sand, based on the patient’s condition, and dipped in warm medicated oil before gentle massage.

Herbal leaves or powders are made in boluses and are applied on the whole body or a part specified after dipping it in warm medicated oils.  This is done for 45 minutes daily for a period of 07 to 14 days.  This is very effective for osteo arthritis, spondylosis, sports injuries etc.

 Procedure

After a thorough body oil massage, the herbal boluses are heated and gently patted or massaged over the affected areas. The process induces sweating (Swedana), which helps in detoxification, pain relief, and muscle relaxation. Treatment duration is typically 45 minutes per session, continued over 7 to 14 days.
